Shigatse, officially known as Xigazê, is a city of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The city has a history going back to more than 600 years.

It is 300 kilometers (186 miles) away from the world’s highest peak Mt.Everest, and also on the only path to Tibet’s holy lakes. As one of the world’s highest cities with  beautiful high plateau scenery, the area is also a hot spot for  tourism. City has  a strong cultural heritage, especially in respect of Buddhism. It has a magnificent   600 year-old majestic Tashilhunpo Monasty  built on a magnificent architectural style with a golden roof and resplendent buildings.

Saga (“happy land”) is an army town with a Chinese garrison which patrols the whole length of the Tibetan-Nepalese border (and often conducts target practice with machine guns very close to the town). This is almost near to Lake Manasa Sarovar and people have more high altitude problems at Saga. Few hotels are available for night stay so that one can continue their journey next day.

We stayed for one night and it was very cold.Weather is not pleasant at Saga  and one can easily fall sick.

Note: Check the video. While we were going from Saga to Lhasa, river started overflowing on the bridge. The same road was immediately closed for 2 days after we crossed the road.
