Lhasa
Lhasa one of the main administrative divisions of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The temperature is generally warm in summer. Most of the rain falls in summer. Buddhism life have been dominant aspects of the local culture. Most of the monasteries were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, but since then many have been restored and serve as tourist attractions. Looks like, City is manually constructed by Chinese govt. Well constructed roads, disciplined citigens. City has life and full of energy. We stayed one day at Lhasa. Lhasa is situated at 3500 ft plus. Hence getting accomplished to new environment is a mandatory. People started taking Diamox medicine to avoid high altitude sickness. While it is good to have medicines , it has side effects one has to take care. I started using ‘ Paccha Karpoor’. Very effective and can be used as alternative to Diamox medicine. It has no side effects.
Our hotel stay was good. But people in china do not follow ‘No Smoking’ rules at Hotels. People smoke heavily due to outside cold and high altitude changing weather conditions and hotels have less control on No Smoking policies.
Food was different here. People eat ‘Rice Gangi’ Liquid rice water which has more carbohydrates suitable for high altitudes.
We visited Pataala palace, UNESCO designated heritage palace. Once, it was occupied by Dalai lamas during the freedom fighting time of Tibet ( 1950’s). Currently, govt has taken over the place and made it as museum.
Overall, city is well developed under Chinese govt. Tibetans population looks to be small and hardly seen in the city major areas.
We started observing many Solar panels installed in the city areas. Looks like, govt has regulated electric power supply to residents. power supply is tightly controlled and distributed across the Tibet based on certain timings policy. Most part of the Tibet we traveled till Mt. Kailash, Electricity is made available only in the night at specific timings( 8 PM to 2 AM) and hot water consumption for bath is less common in Tibet. However, they are using solar panels installation in almost all villages and supply solar power to all the houses. City is highly modernised and we saw all type of western culture, vehicles in the city.
